Health Care in Practice: A Journalist's Perspective A conversation with Pam Belluck, Health and Science Writer, The New York Times, and Author of Island Practice Moderated by Paul Costello, Chief Communications Officer, Stanford School of Medicine  ------------------------------------------------- Pam Belluck has been a staff writer for the New York Times for more than fifteen years, during which she has written about everything from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, cattle rustling to embryo adoption, and reported from places as diverse as Medellín, Colombia, and Seongham, South Korea. She served for more than a decade as a national bureau chief for the Times, covering some of its biggest stories, and is currently a health and science writer for the paper. Ms. Belluck’s first book, Island Practice, is a “spirited, true story of a colorful, contrarian doctor on the world-famous island of Nantucket. Thirty miles out to sea, in a strikingly offbeat place known for wealthy summer people, but also home to independent-minded, idiosyncratic year-rounders, Tim Lepore holds the life of the island, often quite literally, in his hands”. In conversation with Paul Costello, Ms. Belluck will talk about Island Practice and her wide range of reporting on medicine and science for The New York Times. This moderated discussion will conclude with a dialogue with the audience.
