Date: Wednesday, April 17, 2013. 7:00 PM.
Location: 113 Pigott Hall (Building 260)
Luis Trenker: Der Kaiser von Kalifornien/ The Emperor of California (1936) His “Mountain-Films” made him alongside Leni Riefenstahl famous in the late Weimar cinema, and like her Trenker continued his career under the Nazi-regime. This story of the Swiss pioneer Johann August Sutter and the California gold rush is full of pathos, but also has a realist take on the American westward expansion. This first German Western won Trenker the Coppa Mussolini at the Venice Film Festival in 1936. Introduced by André Fischer
