Inside Jazz: Tap Dance — It’s About Time, with Sonny Buxton (KCSM) Saturday, August 3, 7:00 p.m., prior to Savion Glover and his Trio Internationally acknowledged as the greatest tap dancer who ever lived, Tony-winner Savion Glover magically bridges dancing and jazz improvisation. From a family with a rich musical tradition, Savion’s gift was recognized young and he studied tap with the giants of the art including Gregory Hines, Honi Coles, and Sammy Davis Jr. He debuted on Broadway at age 10, nabbed his first Tony nomination at 15, and stood New York and the dance world on their ears when he choreographed and starred in Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk in 1996. He’s made his mark starring in movies by Spike Lee and Barbara Streisand, participating in more than 20 TV specials, and guesting on Sesame Street for six years. But his true genius is expressed most fully in his kaleidoscopic and explosive dancing with his own jazz trio. Don’t miss his mind-blowing fusion of the modern African-American musical experience.
