Date: Ongoing every week from July 9, 2014 through August 27, 2014. 12:00 PM.
Location: Bechtel International Center, Assembly Room
In the words of George Bernard Shaw, "We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." Let’s Play: - To relieve stress: Play can trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain. - To stimulate the mind . Young children often learn best when they are playing—and that principle applies to adults, as well. You’ll learn a new task better when it’s fun and you’re in a relaxed and playful mood. Â - To improve relationships and your connection to others. Sharing laughter and fun can foster empathy, compassion, trust, and intimacy with others. - To feel young and energetic. Playing can boost your energy and vitality and even improve your resistance to disease. Experience summer "re-creation" in this 8-week workshop designed and facilitated by longtime HIP instructor, Deanna Anderson. The goal is to offer the replenishing gift of play, and provide you with skills to further develop your playful nature and outlook on life. Sessions will include games, song, music, writing, dance/movement, meditation and more. Instructor: Deanna Anderson. Deanna is a dancer and Dance Educator, Certified Action Theater Coach and Director, and Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator (RSMT/E), with over 25 years experience serving people through Expressive and Performance Arts.
