Date: Thursday, February 16, 2012. 12:00 PM.
Location: Pigott Theater in Memorial Auditorium
An Artist Talk regarding the upcoming performance hike Picture Jasper Ridge, 70-minute performance hike through Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. Lunch will be served following the discussion. Speakers include: Ann Carlson, Visiting Artist and Picture Jasper Ridge director Philippe Cohen, Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve Administratvie Director Ursula K. Heise, Professor of English and Director of the Program in Modern Thought & Literature About Picture Jasper Ridge. Audience members will experience a rare glimpse of the beauty and environmental diversity of the preserve, as well as witness a number of archival photographs performed in the tradition of tableau vivant on or near the spot where the photo was originally taken. Picture Jasper Ridge stages a collision between the historical moment of the archival photo and the performed present of the landscape. "Picture Jasper Ridge" is a kind of memorial, both to a time passed and to the people that were photographed (now also passed); it's a way to connect to the history that we stand on; it's an invitation to realize that every moment is part of a continuum of other moments both past and future; it's a performance "hike" that is meant to be an exhilarating window into the heart of this land and its impact. --Ann Carlson. Picture Jasper Ridge plays March 9-11. Tickets must be purchased in advance and online at http://drama.stanford.edu. Picture Jasper Ridge is made possible by a gift from Anthony and Rosina Sun, the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts (SiCa), Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, and Stanford Drama.
