They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." —Universal Declaration of Human Rights Adopted by the United Nations in 1948 The Stanford Summer Human Rights Program is an interdisciplinary collaboration that explores emerging issues in human rights through a series of courses, public lectures, and films. The program will focus on international human rights in the 21st century, considering both state and non-state actors in securing rights for all. HUMAN RIGHTS LECTURE SERIES Human Trafficking in the Bay Area Cindy Liou, Staff Attorney, Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach Cindy Liou currently practices law in the areas of human trafficking, immigration, family law, and domestic violence. She is the coordinator for the Human Trafficking Project at the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Legal Outreach. Before joining the API Legal Outreach, she practiced intellectual property litigation and handled a variety of pro bono cases at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Liou received a JD from Stanford Law School and a double degree in political science and business administration with a minor in human rights from the University of Washington. Before becoming an attorney, she was a consultant on corporate social responsibility at Starbucks Corporation. The Human Rights Program is sponsored by Stanford Summer Session. Collaborators include Stanford Continuing Studies, the Program on Human Rights at CDDRL, Stanford Master of Liberal Arts, ICU Community College Human Rights Program, the United Nations Association Film Festival, Stanford Summer Theater, and the departments of International Relations, English, and Philosophy.
