“Jazz marimbist, Mika Yoshida . . . an amazing, energetic performer ready for major exposure.” —Los Angeles TimesSparks fly whenever a new material is forged, and that’s the case with New Genre, a new ensemble combining the astonishing talents of GRAMMY®-winning classical clarinet virtuoso Richard Stoltzman and the fiery jazz marimba master Mika Yoshida, who, according to the Los Angeles Times, is “an amazing, energetic performer ready for major exposure.” Taking the spotlight in this evening’s performance is jazz pianist and SJW faculty director Peter Stoltzman, who also happens to be Richard’s son. Tonight’s repertoire will blur the boundaries between composition and improvisation, with new works written for Mika by Chick Corea, Mike Mainieri, and others.
