Stanford Savoyards Presents a Star Trek and Doctor Who fandom inspired Patience by Gilbert & Sullivan. Stanford Savoyards presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s sixth musical theatre collaboration, Patience, or Bunthorne’s Bride on May 17-18, 2014 ‘under the stars’ at The Bowl, an outdoor amphitheater at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Directors Doreen Finkelstein and Greg Anderson plunder the science fiction fandom universes of Star Trek and Doctor Who creating a satire of cosplay in this fully staged and orchestrated entertainment including updated lyrics and costuming inspired by multiple incarnations of both series. Patience is set in a contemporary English village, where Bunthorne, an ardent Star Trek fan, is worshipped by all the young ladies who have become Star Trek fans to gain his attention. That is to say, all except for the one he most wants, Patience. The local army regiment returns home on leave to find that even their own fiancees are infatuated with Bunthorne and cosplay dressing in Star Trek garb! A rival science fiction fan, Grosvenor, who adheres to the Doctor Who series, arrives in town and complications mount when he, too, falls in love with Patience. Who will win the heart of Patience–the Trekkie or the Whovian? Evening performances of Patience are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 at 8pm, along with a matinee on Sunday, May 18 at 2pm. In the event of inclement weather, check the Stanford Savoyards website for updates. If a performance is cancelled due to rain, patrons will be given the option to either transfer their tickets to another performance (subject to availability) or receive a full refund. The Bowl is an intimate venue consisting of 200 seats, so advance ticket purchases are recommended. The Bowl is a handicap accessible, outdoor amphitheater at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Used for performances, parties, and various events, The Bowl accommodates 200 theater-style seats. Stanford Savoyards is a student-run community theatre company dedicated to performing Gilbert & Sullivan and light opera. We produce two fully-staged and orchestrated operettas on the Stanford campus per season. Founded in 1973, the troupe is known for putting clever spins on the traditional Gilbert & Sullivan opus, often paying homage to pop culture phenomena such as Tim Burton, Bollywood, Firefly, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Stanford Savoyards is affiliated with the Associated Students of Stanford University. Membership includes students, faculty, staff and alumni of Stanford, as well as members of all ages from the surrounding community. savoyards.stanford.edu Ticket Information - on sale soon!$10 students$15 seniors & Stanford staff & faculty$30 general admission Group rates (min 10 tickets) available in advance; stanfordsavoyards@gmail.com
